Parliaments are sinking under the weight of unsolvable problems. Our society is fractured like never before. Government is out of control.
Services and infrastructure are needed but the parliament is not game to tax the biggest earners to pay for it. So it borrows instead. The voters will have their taxes used to pay interest and one day they will have to repay the moneylenders.
Cost of good Government
We all pay taxes one way or another. If it is worth paying taxes, surely it is worth ensuring that they deliver maximum benefits. That I think is what we might call Government Productivity. It is worth paying for progress to make governments deliver us those maximum benefits

There is plenty for all in Australia if we expand the population slowly within our ability to maintain the standard of services like hospitals, schools etc and infrastructure like housing, transport etc and maintain or lower the costs.
Charities not designed to lobby
Charities or Democracy Advocates?
Did you see the full page SMH advertisement on 5/8/25. 103 Charities receiving government funding admit that their influence depends on not offending government. The government funds them from our taxes. Why wouldn’t the government oversee what they say and do?
Charity is about raising money to help those in need. This seems to be about raising money from our taxes to pay the people who head these charities. Oversight of them by government seems appropriate.
Who do they speak for?
How would government know how many Australian voters & taxpayers support what the CEOs of each of those 103 charities or their private donors advocate?
We voters and taxpayers elect and support the government on the basis of what we think it will do. We are the ones who should guide it. It probably always takes more notice of individual voters than of organisations that don’t vote or pay taxes.
